The Jerk Shack At Sandals Resorts Is The Perfect Lunch Spot

When we returned to Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica for our Retie the Knot ceremony, one of the places we had to visit was the Jerk Shack at Sandals Resorts. When we first visited the resort back in 1997 (yes, well over 20 years ago) we did not discover the deliciousness that was jerk chicken until the day we left.

We had no idea what we were missing, and we have been longing for it ever since we left our honeymoon. We had always talked about going back to Sandals Resorts for our 20th anniversary, and we are so glad we did. We had to enjoy the Jerk Shack at Sandals Resorts the second day we were there.

Common FAQ’s About Jerk Seasoning

What Exactly Is Jerk?

Jerk is a style of cooking native to Jamaica, in which meat is dry-rubbed or wet marinated with a hot spice mixture called Jamaican jerk spice. … The meat is normally, but not limited to, chicken or pork, and the main ingredients of the spicy jerk marinade sauce are allspice and Scotch bonnet peppers.

Yeah, the written description just does not do jerk recipes justice. Granted, I already love any chicken recipe, but this is beyond that. It is a taste sensation that gives you a true taste of island cuisine.

What Is The Main Flavor Of Jerk Seasoning?

Known for its distinctive flavor profile, Jamaican Jerk is made from spices indigenous to the island. A combination of spicy Scotch bonnet chiles (or habanero chilies) and aromatic, complex, sweet yet smoky, earthy notes are added to this dish along with thyme, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Is Jerk Seasoning Sweet Or Spicy?

Jerk is a spicy dish that originates from Jamaica but is common throughout the Caribbean. Jerk describes a style of cooking in which chicken is the primary ingredient; other ingredients can include beef, pork, goat, boar, seafood, or vegetables.

Is Jerk Seasoning Very Hot?

As far as Jerk Seasoning is concerned, it is meant to be spicy, as it replicates the Scotch bonnet pepper used in authentic versions, which is believed to be one of the hottest peppers in the world.

What’s The Difference Between Caribbean Jerk and Jamaican Jerk?

Nothing! The name is interchangeable and contains the same seasoning blend.

Which Sandals Resorts Feature The Jerk Shack?

The only sad thing about Sandals Resorts is that not every location has a Jerk Shack, which is a sad thought. However, I am sure it is something they are working on in future renovations. At least, I hope so!

The following resorts in Jamaica offer the Jerk Shack:

  • Sandals Royal Caribbean
