Sandals Overwater Bungalows; The Closest to the USA
Anyone who has dreamed of a tropical getaway has likely imagined the iconic Overwater Bungalows well known in French Polynesia and the Maldives, but the good news is the Sandals Overwater Bungalows are closer to home!
These ultra-swanky suites come with a host of extras over and above the usual Sandals inclusions and are some of the most popular accommodations at Sandals for honeymoons and special occasion trips.
The only thing that will be hard for some to swallow is price tag…
You can skip to my controversial take on if they are worth it here.

Sandals overwater bungalows bring the experience you see in Bora Bora or the Maldives closer to home, as all of the Sandals resorts are located in the Caribbean. These luxurious overwater bungalows are perched over the sparkling Caribbean and give you direct access into the water so you can go swimming or snorkeling at any time without leaving your room.
You also get a large private deck that has an outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tub for Two, an overwater hammock, loungers, and a bistro set. Inside, you’ll find vaulted ceilings, hardwood floor with a glass insert so you can see into the water below, a spacious and serene master bedroom, and a spa-like bathroom with walk-in rain shower.
Each Sandals overwater bungalow is a butler suite, so it comes with personal butler service and 24-hour room service, as well as private airport transfers. Your in-room minibar comes stocked with premium spirits and Robert Mondavi wines and is refreshed daily.

Depending on the resort, there are overwater bungalows, overwater villas with private infinity pools, and two-story overwater villas.

Sandals Overwater Bungalow Locations
Sandals overwater bungalow resorts include Sandals South Coast in Jamaica, Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica, Sandals Grande St. Lucian in St. Lucia, and Sandals Saint Vincent in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Additional overwater bungalows are in the plans for Sandals Dunn’s River and possibly more.
Blue Mahoe Overwater Butler Villa at Sandals South Coast
The overwater bungalows at Sandals South Coast are very peaceful; not only is the resort itself secluded in a pristine nature reserve, but the bungalows are located down the beach from the rest of the resort. The best views can be found in bungalows 3 through 7, as these face out into the ocean.
These bungalows also recently completed renovations in 2025! They still have a similar layout, but the decore and furnishings changed inside, the deck layout was changed some.

Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows & Villas
The overwater bungalows at Sandals Royal Caribbean are set around a heart-shaped walkway on a private island for extra seclusion. There are actually two different room categories that take it to the next level.
Overwater Private Island Butler Honeymoon Bungalow
These overwater bungalows are located on a Private Island and take just a minute or so to arrive at from the private boat transfer from the shore. If you want to enjoy the remainder of the private island, it has a pool with swim up bar, beaches, a nude beach, a Jerk Shack, and a Thai restaurant.

Overwater Private Island Butler Villa with Infinity Pool
These overwater villas are a dream! They include a full infinity pool for guest to enjoy as well as everything else included in a stay in the overwater bungalows.
Previous guests say that you’ll find the most privacy and best views in the overwater villas or in overwater bungalows 6 through 12 (these face out into the ocean rather than back toward the shore or toward the center of the heart shape). When you stay at Sandals Royal Caribbean, you also get access to all the amenities and activities at nearby Sandals Montego Bay via a free shuttle.
Sandals Grande St. Lucian Overwater Bungalows
At Sandals Grande St. Lucian, there are just 9 overwater bungalows. These are located around a peninsula that is down a bit from the main resort area and feature stunning water and island views.
Overwater Honeymoon Butler Bungalow
These Overwater Bungalows are similar to the ones at other Sandals Resorts. They are not as private as there are regularly other boats going around in the bay, but the scenery and location more than makeup for this!

Set along the calm waters of Rodney Bay, Sandals Grande St. Lucian is perfect for watersports and offers excellent snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. It also gives you complimentary access to two other Sandals resorts in St. Lucia and a championship golf course. We also highly recommend getting out to see the gorgeous island and doing some of the local excursions.

Sandals St. Vincent Overwater Bungalows
The newest Sandals resort, Sandals St. Vincent features over-the-water villas that are unlike anything at any other location. These have two stories and more than 1200 square feet of space, with lower and upper decks.
The lower level includes the bedroom and bathroom with side-by-side showers. The deck has loungers and gives access to the water.

The upper deck is covered and outdoors. It features a large daybed, telescope, and soaking tub.

They have ocean views but can also see the resort. Also, these do not have outdoor soaking tubs. However, Sandals St. Vincent is an amazing new resort and one of our absolute favorites, offering an elevated experience in every area, a gorgeous setting, and very warm and friendly service.
Sandals Overwater Bungalow Cost
The cost of a Sandals overwater bungalow varies depending on the resort and the time of year, with the summer being low season and winter being the most expensive.
For Sandals overwater bungalows in Jamaica, the price starts at $1724 per person per night at Sandals South Coast and $1757 per person per night at Sandals Royal Caribbean.
Sandals St. Vincent overwater villas currently start at $1614 per person per night. At Sandals Grande St. Lucian, the overwater bungalows start at $1931 per person per night.
What is Included in the Cost?
Staying at Sandals includes unlimited meals and snacks at all restaurants; all beverages including unlimited premium liquors and unlimited Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wines; a stocked minibar in your room; a coffee maker with Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend coffee; nonmotorized water sports and equipment plus professional instruction; scuba diving for certified divers; unlimited land sports; state-of-the-art fitness center; WiFi; daily and nightly entertainment; private airport transfers; and all tips and taxes.
In St. Lucia, you also get access to all the amenities and activities at two other Sandals resorts, and at Sandals Royal Caribbean, you get access to everything at Sandals Montego Bay.
Additionally, when you stay in a Sandals overwater bungalow your rate includes personal butler service. Your butler will greet you, escort you to your overwater bungalow, check you in, show you around, unpack for you, and make any arrangements you need during your stay (like dinner or excursion reservations). They can also bring you drinks and snacks on the beach or at the pool and set up private meals on your deck. They can also arrange romantic extras like a candlelight dinner on the beach or a bubble bath with rose petals. They will also surprise you throughout the day with little treats.
Is an overwater bungalow worth it?
This depends on the person. I’ll give you a controversial take… I prefer other suites instead of overwater bungalows. My favorite suite in Saint Vincent is the oceanfront villa with a private pool and in Jamaica, I prefer the Sky Suites.
