Sandals South Coast Overwater Bungalows Overview

While we didn’t get to stay in an overwater bungalow when we visited Sandals South Coast, we did tour one and were blown away. Called Blue Mahoe Overwater Butler Villas, there are just 12 set around a heart-shaped walkway over the Caribbean, giving you fantastic water views.

The Sandals South Coast overwater bungalows feel secluded because they are located a little away from the main resort—which is itself nestled in a nature preserve, so it’s very peaceful.

The bungalows are spacious and elegant, with hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings. The main space features a king bed with an incredible view right out to the water through sliding glass doors. You also have a fun view into the water below through a glass insert in the floor and lights below the bungalow. The spa-like bathroom has two sinks and a walk-in rain shower.

The best part is the outdoor deck, which has access to the water; plenty of comfortable seating including loungers and a bistro set; an overwater hammock for two; and a Tranquility Soaking Tub™ for Two. There’s also an outdoor shower.

The water around the bungalows is about 15 feet deep, so it’s great for swimming and snorkeling.

Some of the Sandals South Coast overwater bungalows have sunset views, and some have sunrise views; you can request these when you book, but your choice isn’t guaranteed. Previous guests say that bungalows number 3 through 7 have the most privacy, as they face out into the ocean.

These come with:

  • personal butler service
  • 24-hour in-room dining
  • an in-room bar that’s refreshed daily and stocked with sparkling wine, local beer, Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wine, juice, soda, water, and your choice of premium liquors.
  • private airport transfers in a luxury car

There are also private cabanas on the beach near the bungalows.

The personal butler service is a real game-changer for a relaxing experience. You’ll be met upon arrival with refreshing towels and a drink, then escorted to the overwater bungalow so you can check in in comfort. You’ll get a phone you can use to contact your butler team whenever you need something.

Your butler can do things like unpack and pack, give you tips about the resort, give you rides in a golf cart, make dinner reservations, make spa reservations, grab a cabana or loungers at the beach or pool, and bring you food and drink wherever you are. They can also arrange special romantic experiences like private candlelit dinners, bubble baths, or rose petals in your room.

About Sandals South Coast

Located on the southern shore of Jamaica in Whitehouse, Sandals South Coast is a peaceful and secluded adults-only all-inclusive resort that is very popular for honeymoons.

Set in a nature preserve, it features a pristine and private two-mile-long beach, beautiful pools including the Caribbean’s longest river pool, 9 restaurants serving a variety of gourmet cuisines plus 2 food trucks, 7 bars including an overwater bar and swim-up bars, an overwater wedding chapel, a fitness center, and a spa.

You can take part in a huge range of complimentary activities including both nonmotorized and motorized watersports such as snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking, waterskiing, and wakeboarding; scuba diving for certified divers; land activities including tennis and pickleball; and daily and nightly entertainment.

There are optional offsite excursions as well. We highly recommend going to YS Falls. The drive is not very long and you can combine it with another activity like an authentic Jamaican lunch, visiting the Appleton Estate for a rum tour, or going ziplining. We don’t recommend trying to visit attractions in the Montego Bay or Ocho Rios areas, as those are quite far away.

We found Sandals South Coast to be really beautiful and tranquil. We especially loved the beach, which we think is the best of any Sandals in Jamaica. The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the ride there from the airport, as it is along rough and winding roads and we have motion sickness. If you do as well, just be prepared with some medication.
