Dover Beach Hotel: Hotel and Room review

This was our first trip to the island of Barbados. We were headed to Sandals Royal Barbados, and wanted to fly in a day early so that we could rest and get a good night’s sleep before heading to Sandals the next day. After much research and recommendations, the Dover Beach Hotel Barbados was a top choice.

About The Dover Beach Hotel In Barbados

I think this quote from their website sums it up beautifully:
Our location is also key to our story. We are fortunate to be positioned on such an awesome beachfront with turquoise blue water and a white fluffy beach. We also have an advantage of being within walking distance of the popular St. Lawrence Gap, which is the heart of nightlife in Barbados and is peppered with an abundance of restaurants, night-spots with live entertainment and bars.

What Forms Of Payment Does The Dover Beach Hotel Barbados Accept?

I liked that this hotel accepted Discover cards, which is our preferred credit card. But the hotel allows payment with Barbados dollars, USD, and most major credit cards. I was also able to use my Visa debit card for a purchase I made in the gift shop (keep in mind, there might be international fees your bank may charge for debit purchases).

Pro Tip: Make sure you let your bank know you will be using your card out of the country. If you need to use it in an emergency, the bank will know up front that it is not fraud and won’t lock out your account for unusual charges.

Yes! When I was researching the hotel, I found they have an entire section dedicated to wedding services. If you are looking for a cost-effective place to have your wedding in Barbados, be sure to check them out.

Absolutely yes! The hotel is well positioned within walking distance of the popular St Lawrence Gap, the heart of entertainment on the island, where restaurants, bars, nightspots with live entertainment abound. We walked around a bit in the late afternoon, and never felt unsafe.

Room Review For The Studio Ocean View Room

From the hotel website: These rooms are our highest level of accommodation and are also in the Calais building. They command an alluring view of the beautiful turquoise ocean coloured. The rooms are air-conditioned with a kitchenette, cable TV, safe with king or twin beds accommodating 2 persons.

I know that we were only in the hotel for one evening, but I wanted to splurge a bit and get an oceanview room. Let me tell you, it was SO worth it! We were located on the second floor (be aware there is no elevator in this building so you need to carry your luggage up the stairs) and I felt it was perfect.

Entry & Kitchen Area

You access your room on the backside of the building with a standard electronic key card. Always remember to keep our key away from your cell phone so that it doesn’t deactivate. There is no front desk staff after 8 PM and you will need to wait for security to re-activate it should that happen.

Entry door view

You have a full kitchen area in your room, which I found to be a pleasant surprise. If you are staying for an extended period, there is plenty of space to make a meal for you and your family.

There are 2 standard locks on your door as well. Keep in mind, there is no safe in your room, but the staff does allow you the option to purchase use of one in the office area for $3 per night. I have a locking KYSS bag that I used to secure our valuables whenever we were out of the room.

There is also a closet area, but we never utilized it since we were only staying for one evening.

About The Bathroom Area

The bathroom was large and functional. It came with a hair dryer, and a lighted main mirror.

The shower was large, and the shower head was fantastic. It also came with necessary shower essentials and had plenty of towels available.

The toilet was also in the bathroom area but is open to the shower and sink area.

Patio Area

This room also had a great patio area that overlooked the pool and the ocean. I enjoyed it in the short time we were there.

Hotel Common Areas

There is a wonderful open-air lobby where you check-in. The staff at the front desk were friendly and efficient, and we were on our way to our room in a short amount of time.

There is also a nice seating area above the restaurant that is perfect for relaxing and listening to the waves!

You also have access to the beach from the front of the hotel area. Now, keep in mind, the beach is public, so you may have locals asking you if you wish to purchase weed. A polite no thank you was all that was necessary, and you weren’t constantly pursued.

I will definitely stay at this hotel again. The room was well-worth the price, and the hotel staff were all nice and helpful. The room was immaculate, and the bed was comfortable. I felt safe, and it was the perfect way to start our trip. It was the right decision to come in the day before and be well-rested for our trip.
